Climba
Project Context
INTERACTION DESIGN PROJECT | TANGIBLE
Group project in collaboration with the organisation Generation Pep, an organisation aiming to get kids moving and exercising. The result was an interactive climbing wall that plays music and lights up.

Tools
ARDUINO, FIGMA & ILLUSTRATOR
My Role
DEVELOPER, DESIGN & UX
Children are spending more time on screens and less time outdoors, leading to adverse health impacts.
Problem
Our user group are children under the age of 10.
User
Develop an interactive climbing wall, called Climba, that encourages exploration and movement through responsive grips that light up and play sounds connected to the surrounding environment.
Idea
Features

Arduino Uno
Climba is controlled using two microcontrollers (Arduino Uno), communicating with each other. They control the sensor for the LED and sound.
Sensors
All 12 climbing holds are painted with electrical paint and connected to a capacitive sensor.
LED
Under each hold runs a LED strip, that lights up in a rainbow colour when interacted with.
Sound
Additionally to the LED each hold has different sounds, that plays when the hold is grabbed, e.g. bird song. This accomplished through speakers back of the wall.

Design Process
1
6-3-5 Method
This method was for initial ideation to generate a high volume of ideas quickly in a short amount of time. It also allowed all group members to express their opinions and contribute. Which led to innovative and creative solutions.
2
MoSCoW
Model
This method was used to prioritizes features into Must-haves, Should-haves, Could-haves, and Won't-haves, which helped us to focus on critical functionalities.
3
Low Fidelity Prototype
This involved creating rough sketches of the climbing wall. Which helped with identifying potential issues early in the design process and saving time and resources.

Final Design
Our final prototype is Climba, an interactive climbing wall. Through Climba, we encourage children to explore and create freely through movement. The grips respond to users' interaction by lighting up and playing a sound connected to the surrounding environment. This version of Climba is set in the jungle; however, there are no limitations as to what theme it must be.
